1893 Cyclone
On May 3, 1893 a cyclone took out both ends of the Minor Warehouse and blew down portions of Leach's Livery Stable nearby. The cyclone completely wrecked a three story prize house of W. J. Boglan, owned by Mrs. R. O. Gregory and Norman Burwell's prize house, occupied by Mr. J. F. White. A seventeen year old colored boy by the name of Cousins was buried beneath the ruins and killed. The storm also demolished the three story prize house of Mrs. Lewis Smith and badly damaged the residence of Mr. Zack Lyon, blowing out all the windows and doors. This was the most severe storm in Oxford since 1884.
