W. H. Pryor House--1915-1922--Colonial Revival
Benjamin Hubbard Cozart and wife Fannie, owned this property until 1884. B. H. Cozart had entered the Confederate Army with the Oxford Company and fought through the Civil War. Returning from the battlefields to his wasted home, he entered business and for a while wrought well. He was manufacturer, tobacconist, contractor, and touched many angles of contemporaneous life. He became prominent in politics, holding the positions of Treasurer, Clerk of Court and Senator from the county of Granville. In 1884, the property transferred to Robert Ira Devin and his wife, Mary. Reverend R. I. Devin was the founder of the Baptist Church in Oxford. The property passed to Dr. G. S. Watkins and wife, Willie in 1909 and to W. H. Pryor and wife, Annie Watkins Pryor (Dr. G. S. Watkins daughter) in 1928. William Henry Pryor ran a men's clothing store in Oxford for many years. Three prominent citizens of Oxford purchased this property in 1936 and then sold it to W. T. Beasley and his wife Inez in 1940. In 1949, J. P. Harris bought the property and in 1986 it went to J. P. Harris, Jr. and wife Mary Green. The house was sold via Mary Green Harris' children to Timothy D. and Tracy Lumpkin in 1994.
