Ice Houses
November 26, 1921 -- Ice houses were dependent on cold hard weather. Ice was for the sick, a luxury to the well, an indispensable comfort to all in heat and drought of summer. The ice was obtained from Ridley's pond or 2-3 other ponds around town. Great blocks of ice were emptied into deep holes in the ground lined with long pine poles and covered over with roofs similar to roofs of ordinary dwelling houses.
