J. M Carrington's Great Southern Aggregation
J. M. Carrington's Great Southern Aggregation was a circus type show that came to Oxford, NC November 3, 1874. The Torchlight (Local Newspaper) called it a swindling show. Acts included Professor Barber, the surprising equilibrist; Monseigneur Saul, man with an iron jaw lifting 500 pounds with his teeth; Mr. Charles Killinbeck, an acrobatic wonder; the wonderful Kincade family of four; Mademoiselle Costello, the beautiful equestrienne; Marko and Fields, gymnasts and acrobats; Mr. John Rivers, clown with performing dogs; Mr. Robert Waller, cannon ball performer; the Victoria Brothers in their mid-air flights; Mr. Lew Temper, clown and comic vocalist; Mademoiselle Josephine DeVanier, female blondier who walked a single wire from the ground to the top of the Pavilion; Professor Ball, four horse act; Professor James O'Leary's British Cornet Band. Admission was $.50. Children $.25.
